Shringeri is a must visit Temple in Chikmagalur Dist. Of Karnataka State. It is a famous pilgrimage centre situated on the banks of the river Tunga. The Sri Sharada Peetha is established by Adiguru Shankaracharya the proponent of Advaita Philosophy. The Temple of Vidya Shankara is built in a combination of Chola, Dravida, Nagara, and Chalukya styles. Sri Sharadamba Temple is another major temple here. Accommodation for overnight stay and free food is offered to the devotees though out the year. 

The name Sringeri is derived from Rishyashringa-giri, a nearby hill that is believed to have contained the heritage of Rishi Vibhandaka and his son Rishyashringa. Rishyashringa appears in an episode in the Bala-Kanda of the Ramayana where a story, narrated by Vasishtha, relates how he brought rains to the drought-stricken kingdom of Romapada.

By Air : The nearest airport is Bangalore from where one can travel by taxi and bus. 

By Train : Chikkamagaluru is the nearest Railway Station and well connected by rail to Bangalore, Mysore, Shivamogaa  & Hubli, 

By Road : The drive from Chikkamagaluru to Sringeri by road  is around 85 kilometers and it will take 2 hours to reach.
