Surya Narayana – The Sun-God (Soorya or Surya) is one of such temple, the people who visit Dharmasthala can visit. Surya Narayana – The Sun-God is worshipped by all but there are not enough Temples for Surya Narayana. There is a must visit old Temple of Surya Narayana at Naravi near Dharmasthala. There are two temples In Dakshina Kannada district dedicated to Sun-God. One is at Naravi on Karkala – Dharmasthala road and another one is at Maroli in Mangalore.

Naravi Sri Suryanarayana temple said to be the oldest temple of Sun-God in Karnataka State and it bring back you to the 14th century. According to a popular legend, this temple was constructed by Rama Devi, a rich and pious lady, belonging to Ramera Guthu, who was an ardent devotee of Sun-God.  She used to take her daily food only after she witnessed the sunrise in the morning. However, during monsoon, she could not see the sunrise due to bad weather and had to fast for days. Sensing her problem, the Sun-God appeared in her dreams one night and instructed her to take out the idol of Sun-God that was lying buried near the local river bank (Suvarna River) and install it in the present place to enable her to worship the Sun-God daily.

The idol of Sri Suryanarayana temple is 2.5-foot-tall with lotus flower in both hands and a beautiful crown. It is made of Rudraksha stone. Devotees offer different kinds of Sevas to Surya Narayana, the Sun-God like Hoovu Puja, Karthika Puja, Seeyala Abhisheka, Ranga puja, Ksheerabhishekha to seek His blessings.
