Shivanasamudra is at an approximate distance of 120 kilometers from Bangalore and must visit Weekend Gateway from Bangalore. The island town of Shivanasamudra divides Kaveri into two waterfalls and forms part of a segmented waterfall chain. During the monsoon season of July to October, the watefalls are in full flow, so it’s a perfect time to visit these waterfalls. The Kaveri river splits into two branches before Shivanasamudram resulting in the Gaganachukki and Bharachukki waterfalls. Gaganachukki Waterfalls having the watch-tower for best scenic experience and have a Govt. running Hotel nearby, so you can have food there. To reach the other waterfalls bunch - Bharachukki waterfalls - you have to return back to NH209 and proceed ahead to Sattegala Junction and have to take left turn there. You can visit ‘Madhyaranga’ Temple and other two temples on the way. You can enjoy the other side of Gaganchukki Waterfall on the way. Moving towards the second bunch of waterfall called Bharachukki Waterfalls is few meters from here. The Both waterfalls are very scenic and beautiful and one of the best weekend destination from Bangalore for relaxing your weekend with family and friends. You can visit Sangama and Mekedatu, located along the Kaveri river while returning. Sangama is the place where the river Arkavati merges with Kaveri. Beyond the same, the Kaveri river makes its way through the rocks and deep ravines of the Deccan plateau. The deep narrow ravines of hard granite form the major attraction of this spot.
Mekedatu, the Kannada word can be translated as ‘Goat’s Leap’. The rocky precipices of the gorge is believed to be shaped as hooves made by a goat. Legend says that the goat was none other than Lord Shiva himself in disguise. This is further compounded by the belief that only divine presence can mark their footprints in such solid granite rocks of Mekedatu.
